Review
Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! should have been the perfect movie. It is an exploitation film from the mid-60’s, encircling around three go-go dancers. Their beautiful and charming, and the fact that the go-go dance gives them a weird wholesomeness that is vacant from a stripper, so if you like your girls dancing as opposed to be ing naked, here you go. They hatch a plan to rob a wheel-chair bound man who assists them in temporary living on his farm. Why we would need an elaborate plan to rob a man who can’t walk is never quite explained. Regardless, Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! is violent, dirty, and sexual promiscuous- just about the perfect movie ever. yet it lacks any nudity (there is none) which is a clear violation of standard exploitation flair and makes this film unwatchable for a lack of a payoff.
Reason to Watch
Go-go dancing, violence, and Lori Williams just about sums it up.
Context
Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! does not hold up over time. For a film that was deemed so controversial upon release, it does stand as rather tame. Yet it remains a polarizing film for its plot structure and characters who seem to have a little depth in a genre that usually didn’t do much for their characters other than allow them as vessels for my violence shit to happen to them.
Most Memorable Quote(s)
- The Old Man: Women! They let ’em vote, smoke and drive – even put ’em in pants! And what happens? A Democrat for president!
- Tommy: I work on this baby the same way, trying to get maximum performance.
- Narrator: Ladies and gentlemen – welcome to violence!
What You Need to Get Through This Movie
The knowledge that your girlfriend will never be as cool as Varla.
Trivia
Russ Meyer named the movie like this because he claims that a movie has everything when it contains speed (faster), sex (pussycat) and violence(kill, kill)
Educational Content
- Killing someone has consequence
- If your son is mnentally ill, name hill “Vegetable” for consistency’s sake
Justification for Rating
The problem with Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! is not so much that the film is bad, it’s that the ridiculous plot and inane actions of the characters are not offset by seeing the girls naked. Not that a film NEEDS that to be watchable by any means, but a mid 60’s exploitation film titled Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! that is as hackneyed and bizarre as this one DOES.

Review
Plan 9 from Outer Space is about as bad as it gets in film making, but definitely follows the ‘so bad it’s good” mentality. The plot is just inane and senseless, but you do get a grasp of Ed Wood’s charm and eccentricity, and for classic film buffs, this is probably considered essential viewing. it also features some of the last-used footage of classic actor Bela Lugosi of Dracula fame. The movie is awful, truly and desperately awful. But its appeal somehow stands the test of time, and the dated special effects, even in the late 50’s, still holds a unique…umm..charm.
Reason to Watch
Ed Wood made zombies cool before they were even called zombies. In Ed Wood’s classically terrible film, Plan 9 From Outer Space, a group of aliens attempt to stop the humans from launching a doomsday device that would destroy the universe.
Context
it’s a classic, because you are told it’s a classic. So if you want to pretend you know about films, you sort of, by default, have to see it. that;’s just the way it goes. It’s also hilarious and if you want to prove snuffy film buffs that old films are actually terrible too, this is the way to do it.
Most Memorable Quote(s)
- Paula Trent: Now, don’t you worry. The saucers are up there. The graveyard is out there. But I’ll be locked up safely in there.
- Colonel Tom Edwards: Why is it so important that you want to contact the governments of our earth?
Eros: Because of death. Because all you of Earth are idiots.
- Tanna: What do you think will be the next obstacle the Earth people will put in our way?
Eros: Well, as long as they can think – we’ll have our problems.
What You Need to Get Through This Movie
The movie had poor special effects even for 1959. Put yourself in the time, don’t finish 2009’s horrible special effects foray Transformers and dive into Plan 9 From Outer Space. Maybe a good search through Bigfoot pictures and alien spaceships or a SparksNotes reading of H.G. wells War of the Worlds will get you in the mood. It’s the only way.
Trivia
- Tim Burton’s biopic, Ed Wood, follows the famed director’s critical years, climaxing in the release and public damnation of Plan 9 From Outer Space.
- Bela Lugosi stars in the film posthumously, using regurgitated stock footage from previous films, as well as a few clips filmed right before his death
Educational Content
With 15,000 US dollars and friends with alien suits, even YOU could make a film as embarrassingly amazing.
Justification for Rating
Despites its major flaws, Plan 9 From outer Space is truly a classic in every sense of the word. yes, it will not stand prominently up to more visually respected mediums, its a great example of a man (Ed Wood) with motivation and no skills doing what he wants to simply because he wants to and he can.

Review
Night of the Living Dead originated the zombie craze, and George Romero is more than responsible. It’s not cheery, it’s not happy, and the ending is painfully immediate. Though there were attempts to remake and re colorize and revisit this film over the ages (basically they molested it), the original disturbing charm of the original is where it is at. The film follows a closely-knit small group of stragglers who fight amongst themselves in a zombie apocalypse. They are isolated, alone, and still manage to bicker about nonsense. As you can see, the film created zombie staples that remain to this day.
Reason to Watch
Well, this first zombie film in the …Of the Dead has dated the absolute worst of them all, so for that, it’s required viewing.
Context
For it’s time, the film was intensely horrifying. Even a few murders scenes were still quite shocking for modern viewing, especially putting it in the context of the era. But really, it’s a black and white horror/zombie flick from George Romero, and the pure insanity and low-budgetry of it is impressive. It holds up terribly over time, but that’s key to a great cult film.
Most Memorable Quote(s)
- Tom: Well… the television said that’s the right thing to do.
- Sheriff McClelland: Good shot! OK, he’s dead; let’s go get ‘im. That’s another one for the fire.
- Field Reporter: Are they slow-moving, chief?
Sheriff McClelland: Yeah, they’re dead. They’re all messed up.
What You Need to Get Through This Movie
Your very own zombie coloring book, so you can try to add some color to this lifeless movie.
Trivia
- Night of the Living Dead is free domain, meaning it is essentially for public use. The original studio neglected to place a copyright, apparently thinking it wasn’t worth the $15
- the film is available free for viewing just about everywhere
- The majority of the film was just sort of improvised, coming up with genius lines like “There is no Sunday school picnic!”
Educational Content
You thought zombies were slow? There even slower. Wait. Slloooower. Their basically crawling, their babies. Never go to the cellar in a zombie apocalypse, and killing children is okay if they are out to eat your limbs.
Justification for Rating
The film deserves to stand right in the middle, as it is iconic in creating many zombie film staples, but it has also aged teribly. Though some people like that style, and that is okay to. basically, Night of the Living Dead was supposed to be serious and anything but satire, and the effects and film making made it just the opposite. And now over 40 years later, it’s got this weird mix of serious/stupid, and we still don’t really know what it’s supposed to be.

Review
This movie is the action/thriller/mystery/horror film about the legendary Marie Celeste. A phantom ship that was found floating adrift in the ocean in 1872. The ship was still fully stocked with the goods it was preparing to deliver. The sails were fully set and no one was found on board.
The movie is a fictionalized account of what they believe might have happened. In the story, the crew are disgruntled from day one when they were forced to join the crew. The animosity is present at the start and each member of the crew has their own reason for wanting the captain dead. To make matters worse, he has brought his new bride which only adds to the tension.
It doesn’t help that the person in charge of the crew hands is sadistic and continually beats the crew. He is brutal and mean, and it sets the sailors all on edge.
Reason to Watch
This movie is a classic B picture. If you are looking for great acting…this ain’t it! The movie is worth watching for 2 reasons.
1. The overacting, especially Bela Lugosi, is worth watching. It’s truly comical to watch how some of the actors in this movie contort their fact to show the horror of what is happening.
2. The big murder scene, we see one of the characters getting shot in the butt. You would think this would just knock him to the ground, instead we see him do a classic over the top death, with a quick shot to the butt.
Context
This movie was made when Bela was a big star. I’m sure this was a vehicle that they had hoped would draw off his star power. Done in the 50s, and in black and white, there was no need for big special effects.
Most Memorable Quote(s)
“Black cat…that’s bad.”
What You Need to Get Through This Movie
I would recommend watching this movie with a high potent energy drink. While spots have some comedic value, there are times this story draaaags!
Trivia
I couldn’t find any trivia for this movie…sorry.
Educational Content
It’s amazing in the movie that even though they just threw the corpse in, there was a shark immediately there to be attracted to it. I have always understood that sharks are actually attracked to the movement and thrashing…and that if you are near a shark, you shouldn’t move so it would swim by.
Justification for Rating
While you may find yourself wondering if you should set the snooze alarm to keep yourself awake, there are moments this movie isn’t that bad. The story is pretty well written, but the acting prevents you from fully enjoying it.
